In order to trip from Uyuni to Calama you need to go to Cabrera avenue and Arce avenue where buses leave every day at 4:00am, 5:30am and 12:30pm. The buses cross the border through Ollague, where passengers can clear customs and migration.

The distance between Uyuni and Calama is 425 km and the trip takes 9-10 hours.

Direct trip : There are direct buses from Uyuni to Calama. The journey takes between 9 and 10 hours. There are three bus companies doing this route every day: Cruz del Norte (bus semi lie-flat) leaves at 5:30am and Trans Salvador (bus semi lie-flat), leaves at 12:30pm. Exp. 11 de Julio (normal bus) leaves at 4:00am and there is a change of bus at the border between Chile and Bolivia. The bus stop is on Avenida Cabrera, where the bus agencies are located.

SOME TOURISTIC INFORMATION THAT CAN BE OF INTEREST

Founded at the crossing of two Inca trails, Calama is now a mining town, and still serves as a stopover for people headed elsewhere. Some people traveling to San Pedro de Atacama end up spending the night here, and the town does have a few attractions of its own.

Chuquiquamata : Chuquicamata is the largest copper mine in the world. Guided tours can be organized.
San Francisco de Chiu Chiu : Thirty to 40 minutes from Calama by car, San Francisco de Chiu Chiu is a small village with a river running through it and its own vegetable gardens. The church built in 1674 is one of the oldest in the region.
San Pedro de Atacama : Located one and a half hour away from Calama, San Pedro has many tourist attractions: Valle de la Luna, Valle de la Muerto, El Tatio Geysers, and one can enjoy there one of the clearest night skies in the world.
Food : Try traditional regional dishes like patasca (a stew made from corn, potatoes, vegetables and meat), and a barbecue of grilled llama meat and river trout.
