HOW TO TRAVEL BY TRAIN FROM MACHUPICCHU TO CUSCO?
Tickets Bolivia offers two different options for traveling by train to Cusco:
PeruRail Expedition: You will find three daily schedules; this service is bimodal. This means a short segment is completed by a company bus that takes passengers to the main station, where the train company offers a drink and a snack.
PeruRail Vistadome: Unlike PeruRail Expedition, this train offers on-board fashion shows, as well as music and dance performances. Passengers can enjoy the scenery throughout the journey through panoramic windows and glass-top ceilings.
WHAT TO DO IN CUSCO?
Machu Picchu: One of the New Seven Wonders of the World and one of the most visited destinations in South America. Entrance tickets must be booked in advance, as access is subject to a limited number of visitors per day. You can take the train from Cusco, but the four-day hike along the famous Inca Trail is another great option.
Sacsayhuamán: This massive fortress overlooking Cusco remains a mystery. It contains several temples and underground passages. Only about 20% of its original structure remains, but it is still well worth a visit and is easily accessible from downtown Cusco on foot, by bus, or by taxi.
Tambomachay: This Inca ceremonial site is located near Cusco and is included in the "tourist ticket" (boleto turístico). The tourist ticket allows you to visit most archaeological sites in and around Cusco.
Rainbow Mountain: About 3 hours by bus from Cusco, Vinicunca—a colorful mountain at 5,200 meters above sea level—offers spectacular views. This trek is for acclimatized travelers and should not be attempted when it is raining or snowing.
Restaurants: Visit the San Pedro market to try empanadas, tamales, and other Peruvian delicacies. More adventurous travelers can try cuy (guinea pig), a regional specialty. Cusco is a popular tourist destination, and there are many cafes and restaurants offering a wide selection of local and international food.
Accommodation: There are options in Cusco for every budget. The San Blas neighborhood is a favorite for travelers who wish to stay in a quiet and beautiful area.
