TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM SANTA CRUZ TO PUERTO QUIJARRO

Direct trip by bus: You can travel directly from Santa Cruz to Puerto Quijarro. It takes about 8 hours, direct buses leave Santa Cruz at 8:30pm and arrive in Puerto Quijarro at around 4:30am the next day. The bus company offering this service is Pionera Trans Bolivia (lie-flat bus).
Direct trip by train: In order to travel from Santa Cruz to Puerto Quijarro by train you have to go to the train station in the bimodal terminal on Avenida Montes. The railway company Ferroviaria Oriental offers this service with two types of trains: Expreso Oriental and Ferrobus. Expreso Oriental has departures on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:20pm. Ferrobús leaves on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 6:00pm. The journey goes through eastern Bolivia and does three short stops in El Carmen Rivero Tórrez, Roboré and San José de Chiquitos.

SOME TOURISTIC INFORMATION THAT CAN BE OF INTEREST

Puerto Quijarro is a small town at the border between Bolivia and Brazil and doesn’t offer many tourist attractions. However, the road from Santa Cruz to Puerto Quijarro takes you along beautiful sites and cities, such as Robore and San Jose de Chiquitos.

The main tourist attraction in the area are the Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos which are located in Santa Cruz department in eastern Bolivia. Six of these former missions collectively were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990. The train and the bus stop in San Jose de Chiquitos where you can admire the beautiful Jesuit churches.
